For some of your favorite anime, the cold space void is a well-used setting, and you can easily see why. The desire of men to cross through the Galaxy is a creative spark for many excellent shows and our growing awareness of how the universe works.

The exotic nature of the setting is the perfect backdrop for a range of subjects and visual styles. Let's plunge into our Top Ten Anime Space with that in mind.


10. Kanata no Astra

Synopsis:

Space travel is feasible and available on a commercial basis by the year 2063. When the cheerful Aries Spring comes to the airport to visit a camp on the far-flung McPa, a scrupulous thief snatches her bag. Fortunately, Aries discovers that the athletic, Kanata Hoshijima, will be part of a group of teenagers who will travel with her as Team B-5, on the excursion.

When they arrive at their camping, the group's journey worsens as they are sucked in the vast reaches of the outside by a weird sphere of black light. They find a deserted ship nearby, which gives them the means to return. Stranded with seemingly no hope. But soon, they discover they are not as close as they initially thought to their campsite, but actually thousands of light-years away from home.

With this achievement, the 9 members must manage their resources carefully, maintain their strength, and unite as one to conquer the obscurity of space. While the reason behind the sudden obstruction of their trip remains unknown, they still embark on an abominable journey back home on their new Astra ship.



9. Aldnoah.Zero

Synopsis:

A hyper gate discovery on the Moon once allowed mankind to take him to Mars. Those who chose to live there discovered much more advanced technology than their own home planet, the 'Aldnoah,' and the Vers Empire was founded on Mars, which was the declaration of war on "Terrans," those who were behind Earth. This discovery led to a state of war. But a moon-fighting, later known as "Heaven's fall," brought the hyper gate down, destroyed the moon, and led both planets to a disturbing cessation of fire.

Yet their tranquillity was fragile. Fifteen years later, Inaho Kaizuka, a high school student, witnessed the plotted assassination of Princess Asseylum of Vers Empire Vers Allusia, who had come to Earth to restore relationships between the empire and his homeland. The ceasefire is broken and the Martians once again declare war on the Terrans. Now Inacho and his friends have to battle against the Vers Empire to resolve the war once and forever in the face of that insurmountable enemy.

8. Terra Formars

Synopsis:

In the 21st century, humanity attempted to colonize Mars by sending two species that could endure the harsh environment of the planet to terraform it — algae and cockroaches. However, they did not anticipate the remarkable ability of the species to adapt. A lethal disease known as the Alien Engine Virus has now arrived on Earth in the 26th century, and the cure is suspected to be found only on Mars. The problem is that in the present, Mars is overrun by creatures known as "Terraformars," incredibly powerful and intelligent humanoid cockroaches that mutated from those originally sent to the planet.

A team of one hundred genetically-enhancing men and women from the world with powerful organisms was sent to Mars on a task to identify the cause of the Alien Engine Virus and help heal mankind, signaling that the crew's struggle for survival began.


7. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Synopsis:

In a deep, underground village hidden from the fabled surface, Simon and Kamina were born. Kamina is a free-spirited loose cannon that aims to make its own name, while Simon is a shy young guy without any real aspirations. One day, Simon stumbles upon a mysterious object, the ignition key to an old object of war, which the duo dubbed Lagann. With the aid of Yoco Littner, a heavy blooded redhead wearing a massive gun, Simon and Kamina fend off a surprise attack from the surface.

The sky is now in a clear view in the aftermath of the battle, leading Simon and Kamina to go alongside Yoko to explore the wastelands of the surface. They will soon join in the struggle against the "Beastmen," humanoid beings who terrorize the remnant of the human race in mighty robots called 'Gunmen.' Even if they face some challenges and setbacks, the trio bravely fights these new enemies with other survivors to retrieve the surface and gradually unravel a mystery of the galaxy.

Synopsis:

Space voyages in 2075 are no longer simply a dream, but a daily reality for humanity. Advances in science and technology resulted in moon colonization, outer space marketing, and the formation of large space companies. As a member of its Debris department, Ai Tanabe, the upscale woman who is interested in the cosmos, joins Technora

Ai soon discovered that her job was not appreciated. The Debris Section is severely underestimated, poorly financed, as the Technora laughter is forced to use a spacecraft that has been dilapidated and called the 'toy box' as a toy recovery unit. Undeterred, the strange personalities of the Debris Section such as the stunning but well-natured Chef clerk Philippe Myers, mysterious and tightly lifted temperament worker Edelgard Rivera, and the passionate hot-headed Hachirouta Hoshino who wants a spaceship for himself. Ai is continuously and gradually getting acquainted with those strange personalities.


Planets is an unconventional science-fi series that depicts the wealth of space as a backdrop for ordinary people's personal lives – people who have probably been born on Earth but whose hopes and dreams are amongst the stars.


5. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Franchise

Synopsis:

In the Battle of Astarte, Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance was still just Reinhard von Müsel four months prior to Count von Lohengram of the Galactic Empire. Reinhard was disdained and dismissed as a brother of the Kaiser's concubine by his colleagues, the youngest admiral in Empire history.

Reinhard is ordered by the ambitious and crafty Fleet Admirals Gregor von Mückenberger to take up the Alliance fleet in a neighboring star zone when he arrives at the Iserlohn Fortress with their expeditionary fleet. Although Reinhard recognizes this as the veiled attempt in the fight, he nonetheless commands his tired and weary men to engage the enemy in the gas giant Legnica's atmosphere. However, the first of his many historic encounters with the Hero of El Facil is unknown to him.


4. Seihou Bukyou Outlaw Star

Synopsis:

In the wide sea of stars, Gene Starwind always dreamed of driving his own boat. Unfortunately, not all dreams come true, since he works strange work on the Sentinel III small planet alongside his partner James Hawking. All this takes a turn, however, when Rachel Sweet takes on a duo, who is actually, unknown to them, a treasure chasing outlaw. The meeting was designed to safeguard a mysterious girl called Melfina; it changed the lives of the pair irrevocably as they were displayed on the highly advanced ship, Outlaw Star.

Seihou Bukyou Outlaw Star, who is brave for the final frontier, is following Gene and her ragtag crew and sails the stars to find answers to the Melfina mysteries. There is certainly an exciting adventure every corner when you meet dangerous bounty hunters, space pirates, Taoist mages, and even catgirls.


3. Macross Franchise

Synopsis:

With a mysterious satellite crashing through the planet, humankind discovers it's not alone. In the face of a potential threat from space, the world pushes its nationalism, conflicting interests, and cultural differences aside. The newly created United Nations powers agree to rename the international spacecraft SDF-1 Macross. On the day of his first flight, the SDF1 Macross springs up the incoming squadron, springing an intergalactic war, but the flood of ships belonging to a race of aliens known as the Zentradi streaming to Earth on their own will.

The Macross attempts to escape, but the ship, as well as the city it was, is transmitted to the far reaches of the universe. The Macross tries to escape. Hikaru Ichijou, an acrobatic pilot free-spirited, and Minmay Lynn, an aspiring rapper, are drawn to this mess. Together with the crew of Macross, these two will undergo an epic journey full of sorrow and suspense that will face the cruelty of war along the way.

2. Gundam Franchise

The Universal Century is the year 0079. Mankind has migrated to the vacuum, live in "Sides" colony clusters. One of them is the Principality of Zeon, which declares the Earth Federation, the governing body that rules Earth at present. Zeon rapidly wins the upper hand with the use of powerful humanoid robots known as mobile suits.

The Earth Federation created a mobile suit named the Gundam nine months after it became a dispute. As Zeon starts an assault on the colony that holds Gundam, pulling him into war around the globe and the room is a 15-years-old citizen, Amuro Ray, who pits him against the enemy's aspirant, Char Aznable.

1. Cowboy Bebop

Synopsis:

Many of the planets and moons of the solar system colonized in 2071 leaving behind the now uninhabited surface of planet Earth. The Inter Solar System Police tries to keep the galaxy at a peaceful position, partly helped by the outlawed bounty hunters, known as "Cowboys."

Spike Spiegel is well-suited and caring for his boisterous, pragmatic partner Jet Black, as the pair strives for reward and rewards. Thrown off course by adding new traveling members — Eins, a highly intelligent, geno-engineered Welsh Corgi; Faye Valentine, an enigmatic scoffer with a loss of memory; and the strange Edward Wong, the kid in the computer — the crew is starting to embark on exciting adventures which will gradually unfold the mysterious and dark past of each member.

Cowboy Bebop is a Western classic space and an homage to the soft and improvised music that is well balanced with high-density action, and light heart comedy.
