In a deep, underground village hidden from the fabled surface, Simon and Kamina were born. Kamina is a free-spirited loose cannon that aims to make its own name, while Simon is a shy young guy without any real aspirations. One day, Simon stumbles upon a mysterious object, the ignition key to an old object of war, which the duo dubbed Lagann. With the aid of Yoco Littner, a heavy blooded redhead wearing a massive gun, Simon and Kamina fend off a surprise attack from the surface.
The sky is now in a clear view in the aftermath of the battle, leading Simon and Kamina to go alongside Yoko to explore the wastelands of the surface. They will soon join in the struggle against the "Beastmen," humanoid beings who terrorize the remnant of the human race in mighty robots called 'Gunmen.' Even if they face some challenges and setbacks, the trio bravely fights these new enemies with other survivors to retrieve the surface and gradually unravel a mystery of the galaxy.
